Creating UTM Parameters for Precise Campaign Tracking

Guide To Setting Up UTM Parameters

UTM parameters help track the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns. Further, You can Track Campaigns in Google Analytics GA4

Use Google's Campaign URL Builder: https://ga-dev-tools.google/ga4/campaign-url-builder/

The UTM builder has made it simple and quite easy to build our URLs with UTM codes.

We just have to fill out the empty fields, and it will automatically generate a link with UTMs that we can use for campaign tracking.

How To Name UTM Parameters :

Here is a quick guide to what each UTM Tag does and how we'll be using each tag for a specific marketing campaign.

  • utm_source: Identifies the source of traffic. Use it with the name of the third-party website or platform (e.g., newsletter, twitter)

  • utm_medium: Name it in a way that will help you easily distinguish the type of traffic. Is it from an ad? Email? Paid social? Organic social?.(e.g., email, cpc, social)

  • utm_campaign: Use a name that will allow you to easily connect the campaign across multiple channels.

  • utm_term: You can also use it to indicate the ad headlines on other platforms, email subject lines, and more.

  • utm_content: Use this to differentiate between ads or posts on the same platform. It can be very useful for A/B testing different ad formats or ad copy.
